If we do every new restaurant review in Kirkland,I won't be able to stuff myself into my bikini this summer. It's already questionable. So when our friends and fellow Kirklanders, Prerna and Sunny of Juanita, said they recently tried out Clancy's Bistro, I jumped at the chance to have them share their review. Many thanks, guys. Here's the low-down from Prerna:
My friends & I went to Clancy's Bistro, a little Italian place on Lake Washington Blvd in Kirkland on the water (previously Foghorn Restaurant). Everything was good..the food, the service, and the views of Lake Washington are magnificent.
The staff was very polite and always on top of things - in fact, we had 2 children with us and they did an amazing job of entertaining our kids. It was attentive and prompt, a welcomed touch. We were promptly shown to our table (we had reservations) and within minutes, the owner read us his specials. Fresh, soft, Italian bread was placed on our table, while we looked over our menus which carried an interesting mix of appetizers, pasta, and seafood dishes. The wine selection was good.
We ordered the "Calamari al Salto", and "Mozzarella Caprese" for an appetizer (each was $9) and both were very good. For our main course, we ordered one of the pasta specials "Spaghetti De Maro" with seafood and basil and another "Rigatoni Bolognese" with meat sauce (each $13) both prepared aldente and to perfection. Other folks ordered the halibut - that was good too. Prices are very reasonable for a high end restaurant . Very fitting in price for Kirkland and value of food.
The owner Tim Clancy was very personable.
In terms of decor and ambiance, it is very similar to previously; lots of low candlelight, booths and tables tiered for optimizing the view, all set in a kind of old house. Although the seating accommodations may appear to be a bit close and furniture on the older style, once settled, there was more than ample space around each table to enjoy a good conversation.
We plan on visiting Clancy's again soon and would highly recommend Clancy's to anyone in need of delicious, authentic Italian cooking and good service.

Steve and I finally got in to try this place last night and had a fabulous experience. We zipped down in the boat and there was plenty of moorage space on their dock (waterfront side of the bldg is still marked with 'Foghorn Restaurant' signs, fyi). Aesthetically, it's the same older style as before, but the food is amazing and the view is top notch. We had the carpaccio appetizer which was delicious and a generous portion. I ordered the linguine w/manila clams and Steve got the special which was linguine with prawns/fresh tomatoes. Both came out piping hot with a tasty and garlic-y sauce that was light and delicious. We skipped coffee/dessert b/c we felt like our dinner put us in a really good place. App/2 entrees/2 glasses of wine and we walked out for $66- well worth it. Some of the meat/fish entrees seemed more expensive, but I would assume they were on par with the excellent quality of the pastas we experienced. Service was also very good, and EJ the owner is right on hand. Only downside I can think of is the bathrooms are upstairs and inaccessible for handicapped patrons. If you, like us, weren't big Foghorn fans, let me tell you it's worth your while to venture in to Clancy's for some fabulous food. ~Janis

I love getting your weblog, it keeps me updated in the community. Here is one of my leave ‘ems: based on a recommendation I read on this sight I made reservations for a special birthday dinner at Clancy’s, it was my daughters big 18th, and I like to keep my business in town! As you can guess our 18 year old had plans to meet friends following our dinner out so I timed the reservation so she would have plenty of time to make her other engagement. Needless to say we ordered our dinner and while waiting sampled a skimpy lack luster appetizer. Fifty minutes later we received our dinner. The waiter kept assuring us the meal would be right out. After 40 minutes I was ready to leave but my children were starving and embarrassed that I would make a scene by leaving the restaurant. Once the dinner arrived it definitely hadn’t been worth waiting for. The manager (at least I think that’s who it was) told us dessert was on the house, I explained we were in a very big hurry and that we were not interested. The next thing I knew out came one desert for the 4 of us to share (do you think they could afford that?) and another wait on receiving the final entire check. No final apologies, nothing. There’s my rant and leave them song!
