After reading your comments, I came to the conclusion that you and your husband are a pathetic lot of self-absorbed individuals. Sorry sister, but the world does not revolve around you nor were the rest of this planets inhabitants placed here for your pleasure. From previous posts I have come to the conclusion that you and your husbands are uptight snobs neither deserving to have one’s opinions viewed due to self-indulgent gratification.

If anyone else has or knows of a different Kirkland Blog please let us all know. These folks are a bit too snobbish for my taste.

I was in the middle of composing a note to everyone in my office saying "hey, come check out this great list" when I came back to see this comment. Sheesh. This sort of detail is what hyper-local blogs are all about, and I find it useful. Anyone who doesn't like the content here can simply choose not to read it.

"I love getting great service because well, I deserve it..."
How about you do all of us a service and choke to death on your next Thai iced tea.
Seriously, this can't be for real...what you deserve is a dip in the reality pool, you self-absorbed, snotty little pieces of shit.
Give me a goddamned break.

Jason

So let me guess: "Bruce" and "Thom" are aliases for Perkins and/or Son, or their last name is "Hart".

Jim Hart is notorious for having a corner on the Kirkland surveyor market because of work he did for the city years ago. And, from my own personal experience, I can vouch for his lack of customer focus because, well, he doesn't need to be nice.

I'm always surprised at the level of hate that comes from people like "Bruce" and "Thom". Sure makes Kirkland seem like a nastier place to live. Thanks for dragging the rest of down with you...

Janis

So, Bruce/Thom, I'm confused. Do you like good service or not? My comment "I like good service b/c I deserve it" doesn't literally mean "I" deserve it, but "you" do too! All of us do.
And if you're a business you should revolve around the customer- whether that customer is a snot like me or stellar guys like you.

I love getting your weblog, it keeps me updated in the community. Here is one of my leave ‘ems: based on a recommendation I read on this sight I made reservations for a special birthday dinner at Clancy’s, it was my daughters big 18th, and I like to keep my business in town! As you can guess our 18 year old had plans to meet friends following our dinner out so I timed the reservation so she would have plenty of time to make her other engagement. Needless to say we ordered our dinner and while waiting sampled a skimpy lack luster appetizer. Fifty minutes later we received our dinner. The waiter kept assuring us the meal would be right out. After 40 minutes I was ready to leave but my children were starving and embarrassed that I would make a scene by leaving the restaurant. Once the dinner arrived it definitely hadn’t been worth waiting for. The manager (at least I think that’s who it was) told us dessert was on the house, I explained we were in a very big hurry and that we were not interested. The next thing I knew out came one desert for the 4 of us to share (do you think they could afford that?) and another wait on receiving the final entire check. No final apologies, nothing. There’s my rant and leave them song!

AMEN! I am sick of this blog as well! It's too ego centric.

Eve M.

Yep, I'm inclined to agree that Bruce Kish, Thom Brook, and Mike are sock puppets. Why don't Bruce, Thom, and Mike provide some information to show that they're real people and not associated with the businesses that got criticized (with some reason, it seems)? It's easy for anonymous cowards to fling insults and curses, and -- it feels ridiculous to have to explain this, but here goes -- comments such as these do nothing to convince people that the businesses in question are worth patronizing.

Jessi

Well, Thom and Bruce and Mike, if expecting good service makes an individual a snob, then I guess I also would be one of those "pathetic lot of self-absorbed individuals."
I've worked in the customer service industry for the past 5 years and simple gestures of apology when you are running a bit behind are text book and should be expected or at least a verbal apology at bare minimum. I'm curious where the three of you work because I want to make sure to NEVER go there. Your comments were unjustified and quite frankly, didn't make an ounce of sense.
It always amazes me to hear people pop off about somebody else's opinions. This is a wonderful, truthful resource for the city of Kirkland and if you feel so strongly against it, walk the walk and start your own blog instead of pissing and moaning about it.

Kirkland Mom

Wait, what's wrong with someone posting their opinions on ANYTHING? I mean, haven't you read any of the review sites, like citysearch.com, epinions.com and the current darling, yelp.com ? The only difference with this blog is that
1) they're posting all their opinions straight into their blog, rather than dishing them out to the aforementioned sites
2) this is called "Kirkland Weblog" - but it's not endorsed by anyone. It's not the official City of Kirkland blog, nor would I consider it a "resource" - it's just two residents' opinions on life!

Get over YOURselves.

I love reading reviews on blogs AND those opinion sites (yelp is great & where I contribute).. but I'd never bash someone because they posted a negative review.

"Attack the issue, not the person." - a journalism tenet I first learned in my elementary school newspaper club (back in the 1970s).

I just have to weigh in on the vitriolic comments made by some of the readers of this blog. Please, if you don't like the comment, content, or tone of the blog Steve and Janis are generous enough to create for our use -- on their own time, without compensation from anyone -- then please do spend your online time elsewhere. No need to post snide comments here, and if you do wnat to respond to your comments about customer service, it's perfectly possible to do so without resorting to nasty personal attacks (which of course had nothing to do with customer service).

I love this blog and don't care that it's not endorsed by anyone, because it allows Steve and Janis to be unbiased in their reviews. Once someone starts "endorsing" a site inevitably some level of censorship starts to creep in, to the detriment of the blog.

Now, in response to the comments made by Thom / Mike / and Bruce ... I think Janis was simply making the point that businesses are in business to serve customers. As a result, all of us (not just Janis!) deserve a reasonable level of service. Far from being a snob or self-absorbed, I believe Janis was simply trying to point out the obvious. And if you happen to be involved with one of the "leave 'em" businesses mentioned in the blog I hope you'll take the opportunity to make some changes in the way you do business!

J.L.

The ad hominem attacks offered by scholars Thom and Bruce are ridiculous: by assaulting the person making the argument, rather than addressing the substance of the argument, their words are rendered meaningless. I concur from personal experience concerning your remarks regarding Mr. Hart.

obscurica

Lillian (no wonder she's grumpy) abruptly told me that if we had other bids we should just go with one of those...

Well, Kirkland Mom, I think that Janis just completely blew your quote about atacking the issue and not the person out of the water with that little snippet.

Customer Service goes both ways and people still have the right ot refuse service to people. Point blank. No matter how rude and abusive and head up their own ass they are to begin with.

Be nice to people and they will be nice to you. And that includes making fun of people's names passive agressively on weblogs too.

Matt

I've seen nothing but remarkable customer service from The Bath Bar in downtown Kirkland on Park Lane. More here:

Love the details on your blog. Of course it sounds self-absorbed !!! It's a blog for heavens sake! Why else would anyone starts a blog? Those who are irked do have a choice, don't READ IT!!! I agree with most but not all, but everybody's different. I happen to not expect great service anymore just so I don't have to get upset as much. When it happens, it's wonderful! I do too go to Zo hair after following Stacey there from the salon on Lake next to Ben and Jerry's. She has been my colorist/stylist for 4 years now, and no one does color better than she. But the best part is that she really cares. Now how rare is that these days???

Keep blogging

Drake B

Customer service is everything!
