The J-Bay Bar & Grill, formerly Juanita Bay Pub on NE 120th, is open and their bar is attracting a consistent crowd already. The parking lot looks jammed every night! The first thing they did right was that they got the s-t-i-n-k of the previous establishment out of there. I don't know how they did it- aerators, sandblasting, fresh paint, Glade plug-ins, magic spells?? Whatever it was, it makes a huge difference to inhale some clear air when you walk in.
They have definitely up-scaled it from its previous stature. There are lots of TV's and a big open bar area with lots of seating and plenty of tall boobily fishnet ladies to fetch you a cold brewsky or martini. It's no wonder there's mostly dudes in there, but with the football games going in HD, it's a fair argument that could be the lure too. Sad to say it's not the food- I had some creole prawns and Steve had the roasted vegetable penne pasta - maybe the dining area is bland to match the cuisine, but they are still working the kinks out I'm sure. If I was looking for a casual local spot to have a beer (and maybe a burger would have been a better choice) and watch a game it would be a GREAT spot to hang out in the bar.
So, go try it out for yourself and let us know what you think. Steve is already asking to go back- he may have mumbled something about the thigh-high patent boots but I can't be sure ;-). ~j

Katie -- will yo do us all a favor and update the JBAY web page. I mean since you basically just wrote word for word what it says about the food and drink descriptions you gave. And to anyone who has an IQ over 12, read "katie's" review, then read everything writting on the web page.....same person wrote it. If you can't figure that out, you are stupider than the person who is going to attack me for using the word stupider. I know it's not a word, but jbay sure as hell isn't a bar, and you can't stop talking about it, get over it. Funny how you weren't able to respond all day Katie, too busy making vanilla mojitos by chance????

Maybe they should open a drive up window and have the hookers serve coffee in bikinis? It worked at the hut in Everett to boost biz.
This place will be gone before the year is out. Come on KPD, get this scum out of our town now.

Sorry, I don't have the time or energy or will to waste on these stupid blogs and all these made-up accusations. So you guys continue to bicker and be bitter and I'll go on living my life with plenty of great times and good friends.

See ya! :)

All I have to say is WOW- there are sure some mean spirited people on here. Would be great if you could redirect the hostility and and actually do some good for your community.
Posted by: wow | September 29, 2009 at 08:32 AM
I'm sorry you interpret disgruntled neighbors as mean spirited. If your next door neighbors partied and caused a ruckus at all hours of the night and kept you and your family awake you might want something done. If your property was vandalized and drugs were dealt in front of your house you might feel differently. If overserved people were puking on your driveway you would probaby be upset. What would be better for this community than to get rid of the bad crowd the J-Dive attracts?

Hey "wow"
all i really have to say to you is wow. Mean spirited people, huh? You mean to tell me that these "mean spirited" people who lived here long before this absolute joke of an establishment was are griping and not doing any good for the community??? Seriously, that is the best you have?
Any good for the community -- Well, let's see here, if my 17 year old daughter said she was going to the Starbuck's in Juanita Village, I wouldn't mind one bit. If she said she was going to the J Bay, I think my answer would be a little different. Did I lose you, or should I explain that one a little for you. What I am saying (and what all of these mean spirited people are saying as well) is that if we start attacking reutable, responsible business' and their owners, then you could classiy us as mean spirited. I wish my daughter and her friends could walk to a nice family restaurant and have some good food, good service, and not be solictied for drugs and prostitution, but unfortunatey, Re-Todd decided that this kinda of establishment is exactly what Juanita Village needs.
Mean spirited just seems ironic. Seems like you should be calling the owners of the J Bay mean spirited. For thinking it is ok to torture the people who live here with their drug dealing customers, their skanky bartenders and servers, and their absolute disregard to everything else that is going on around them and basically giving a big f*ck you to everyone who lived here before this piece of s*hit opened. Hopefully soo we mean spirited folk will have the last laugh, and you can defend your prostitution escort service when they try and open up again and ruin another town. Oh yeah, the food sucks too, so shut up Katie, you are worthless too.

I hope your 17 year old daughter doesn't go to Jbay- it is a bar and as a bar, I wouldn't let my 16 year old son go there either. I'm assuming your comment stems from the fact that they are now serving breakfast, but then again maybe I'm giving you too much credit and you actually do let your kid go to bars. I'm not endorsing or defending as I've never had breakfast there- but regardless, it's still a bar and not a "family restaurant". Last time I checked, Juanita Village has several "family restaurants" that are appropriate for everyone.
Another person commented that people should get off their a*s and do something about it if this place is so terrible- I think the suggestion was contact local media. So, Cheers to Nimby- if this place is SO bad, get off your A*S and get the press involved. Otherwise, keep doing your couch potato bit*hi*g- but from what I can tell, it's not getting you anywhere.

I thought WOW was an employee from the J BAY, she has added a son to her cast, I mean her family? Hmmm ? This is fun to watch. I have heard from several pals around town the press is all up on all the goings on. Its all in the timing I hear.
Posted by: Elizabeth | October 01, 2009 at 12:52 PM
Elizabeth- love the assumptions you are making. To set the record straight- First of all, I'm male. Second of all, I've only been to Jbay a few times with my wife and we both enjoyed ourselves and did not have any negative experiences. We are not regulars, but we do also live in the neighborhood and don't have the same issues that others on here are having. That said, I would never down play what others are dealing with, hence, why I suggested doing something about it. Third, my son would find it hilarious that he is a "cast" member, and not actually part of my family. I don't see how personal attacks will get anyone anywhere- it saddens me that people would stoop to this level, including myself who threw it right back at cheers to nimby. Cheers to Nimby- we may disagree with each other, but there's no reason to attack each other. And finally, I'm merely suggesting that folks take action if they are disgruntled rather than continuing to b*tch on a site.
Posted by: wow | October 01, 2009 at 01:35 PM
...rest assured that the community is taking action. This is just a sounding board.
Posted by: Truth Hurts | October 01, 2009 at 10:15 PM
It is a sounding board. One that serves a venting place for regular folks to sound off about some stunning things we have seen at a local restaurant. Hopefully the end is near for what I had such high hopes for. Then perhaps the sounding board will have a decent joint to talk about.

Lets just hope someone worse does not come along.

Anything worse wouldn't stay standing.

Greetings,
I am sorry to see all the negativity with respect to J-Bay. I will tell you that things are changing. S..you are wrong sir/madam. J-Bay is here and has no intentions of going anywhere but up. There are changes in the works. BIG changes that hopefully will change the attitudes towards the establishment to a more positive tone.
I can't speak for what has gone on before but I can say that many of the complaints you have voiced will be addressed immediately.

Joe & Tamara,
I really hope you'll get rid of the hooker look for your waitstaff and control the patio noise. I'm skeptical about this "new management" pitch and when I don't see Todd's truck out front I might start to believe. Good luck.
Posted by: Truth Hurts | November 20, 2009 at 07:23 PM
For me the Todd piece has to be gone. Too risky to go in if that part is still in place. Not sure what truck is his but I can ask around. Love to stop by but he is poisonous. Good Luck

Truth Hurts and Hopeful, The ownership of JBay has not changed. All of the original partners still retain their stakes in the business. However, none of them are involved in the day to day management of JBay.
Last week the feedback from customers was overwhelmingly positive and many people commented on the new atmosphere. If you still have concerns we invite you to stop by, introduce yourself, and check it out.
