CrossFit prides itself on being an all-inclusive gym, helping you hone endurance, anaerobic strength and conditioning. There's a certain comraderie and limit-pushing workout philosophy that draws athletes to this gym like flies to flypaper. With the existing Kirkland CrossFit bursting at capacity, the owners (photo, Jeremiah Ingersoll) are opening a second location on August 1st, called Kirkland CrossFit North (KCFN). Nestled in a warehouse space in Totem Lake with their signature rustic garage gym feel, this facility has their usual ropes, rings, rowers and such, but also boasts a locker-room for showering and a kids' area ( to minimize toddlers mastering the art of power cleans).
Lucky Kirkland Crossfitters get two gyms and one membership. Start times will be staggered. Morning classes will be at KCFN and afternoon classes will run at both locations. If you feel like showing off, you can run the mile and a half rail trail from one to the other. Hour long classes max out at 15 per 'WOD' which is schmack-talk-CrossFit language for 'workout of the day.' Memberships are month to month ($145/individual). Check for more details on their website : www.kirklandcrossfitnorth.com .
And maybe not so coincidentally, gyms are opening at an equal pace as yogurt shops in Kirkland (my belly is full of Menchie's right now, post soon). Eyes out for LA Fitness in Sept, Barre3 has opened in Studio Be's old spot, and maybe even a cycling studio downtown.........~j
