Neal Hughes and Rhonda Herbert were anxiously awaiting some important shoe deliveries for their new shop, Crush Footwear, on Kirkland Ave (right next to Fox Cleaners) that will be opening on August 11th. After plugging in their tracking numbers, they learned that the train their merchandise was on had derailed in Montana. Yikes! Fear not, their commitment to bring great shoes to Kirkland was still on track. Luckily, their shipments arrived a little late and without damage.
After creating and running successful shoe e-commerce websites, this will be their first physical store. But why Kirkland? "Because we wanted to live in a community and be part of a community," she says. Rhonda and Neal are honing in on a niche of hard to find items that are unique, special and not the type of footwear you will find just anywhere. They work with emerging designers from all over the world, often bringing in handmade shoes in limited quanitites. Brands like Eva vs. Maria by Eva Bazan from Barcelona will have Crush Footwear as her first U.S. distributor. The shoe above in the photo is by Miista.
The store was all still coming together when I met these fellow shoe-lovers last week. Concrete on the walls, bamboo on the floors and clean-lined displays were all in the works, along with a sitting area for your husband to get his credit card ready. Crush Footwear will offer a wide range of shoe types- oxfords, pumps, boots, work shoes, edgier choices. Pricepoint is between $80-300. Stop in and welcome Neal and Rhonda to the neighborhood. A grand opening is planned for September, but doors will be open on August 11th. 425-298-4024 ~j
