Thank goodness! How I've missed drinks and fresh delicious creations on their patio. After an unexpected closure in May due to a catastrophic water main break, The Heathman is poised to re-open on Friday, August 3rd. I was lucky enough to run into Les Utley, GM, who gave me an improptu tour today. Lots of staff were there dusting, wiping, cleaning and readying for the big day. Trellis got some new wide plank distressed wood floors, and they have also added two more bathrooms across the hall from the existing ones on the main floor.

And while they were at it, they also took the opportunity to do some re-designing which includes: expanding the fitness center downstairs, adding a new meeting space and event space (ready for use around Labor Day), and a library for receptions and guests. The Penterra Spa will not be re-opening. But Trellis, their much-loved restaurant, is opening on Friday with some fun specials. They will be offering 3 courses for $33 (full menu) and their full wine list at half price for their first ten days. Every Weds in August happy hour will be 4pm-close in the bar and front porch. I'm sure there are grand re-opening rates at the hotel too. I like they way they celebrate!
It's a bittersweet opening for Les Utley (photo), whose last day will be this week. He is headed to San Antonio for a new role, so I just wanted to say thank you to Les for all he has done for The Heathman and especially for going the extra mile as a leader and supporter in the Kirkland community. Let's hit that happy hour and toast to Les! Welcome back, Heathman. ~j
